1907 Print Venice Italy Bucintoro Boat Gandola Ascension Marriage Adriatic XGTB4 XMF5 The Homestead also contains theThis is an original 1907 black and white halftone print of the traditional ceremony that occurred annually in Venice, Italy, where the Doge (ruler) would wed Venice to the Adriatic Sea in the hope that God would calm the sea's waters and the Venetians' troubled hearts. He performed this ceremony on the Ascension Day after mass in Saint Mark's Basilica. The Doge would ride the famous and elaborately decorated Bucintoro boat (pictured in the background)
