2 Zilveren botermesjes met carneolen heft, J. Kooiman, Schoonhoven, ca. 1890 Deventer Gewicht: 1632 Silver butter knives with carnelian handles, made by silversmith Jacob Kooiman. He was a skilled silversmith, active in the Dutch silver city of Schoonhoven. His company used the maker's mark JK1 (or variants) in the period from 1881 to 1893, after which his son Andries Cornelis took over. Carnelian is a semi precious stone with a characteristic warm red to orange brown color. Cutting this stone into a sleek, fitting handle was purely manual work.
