Zilveren gelegenheidslepel, W.J. de Roos, Dokkum, ca. 1780 Appingedam Further hallmarked with a masterA silver commemorative spoon made by silversmith Willem Johannes de Roos from Dokkum. He became a master in 1763 and worked until 1792. The spoon is typically Frisian and features the symbol of Hope: a dove and an anchor. The dove refers to Noah, Genesis 8 11; the anchor refers to Hebrews 6, about "hope as an anchor of the soul." The silversmith uses a rose as a symbol. He was born around 1719 and died on May 8, 1797. In 1771, he became mayor of
