Its main purpose is to uncover the philosophical foundations of the female ritual of the Bacchantes and to show how it finds an echo in the daily life of the Greeks, including theater, and an extension in philosophical doctrines, notably in the texts of the Pythagorean philosophers, in Platonism through the voice of Diotima and in Stoicism.
